Here recently, NASA announced those 4 space-ready passengers. This mission will be part of the 2024 Artemis 2 mission to fly around the Moon. But China also does not want to lag behind in this race and it may soon make a big announcement in this direction.

As a professor studying space and international relations, my research aims to quantify the power and capabilities of various nations in space. When I look at the different capabilities, the data paint a far more complex picture than a tight space race between the US and China. At least at present no precise comment can be made in this direction. The reality looks more like what I call a complex hegemony. Still the one state with major space capabilities, the U.S. has dominance. This edge is further enhanced by a strong network of partners.
